Day 8
THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 10
We didn't get to sleep in yesterday morning.  Bummer.  We
rolled out early, got the last of our packing done, checked
out and away we went again.  It was kind of nice for a few
days, not having to schlep the luggage in and out of the
here previously, and we wanted to get a look at some of the
old airplanes at the Aircraft Museum there.  So, just west of
Greybull, we pulled into the rest stop, got out of the car and
happened to strike up a conversation with two couples
who were just getting ready to load up and head out.
Wouldn't you know it?  It happened again.  The people we
met were Bob and Ilene Ostenson from Spooner (on the
left) and Neil and Lorraine Coaty from Chetek.  We had a
nice visit with them and hit the road again.  What a great
way to start a trip!  We made our way through Ten Sleep,
WY, on up to Powder River Pass, on over to Buffalo, and
eventually here to Rapid City, SD, for the night.  Tomorrow?
We'll see.  I checked my e-mail to my station address, and
everything seems more or less under control.  We're
coming home, and we'll see you in a few days.
Share your stories with us at this link,

Where the antelope play.  The
deer have jobs, wrecking cars.
A couple of the World War II aircraft at the
museum, just west of Greybull, WY.
See those mountains way off in the distance?  Those are the
Big Horns, and that's where we're going.  The Big Horn
Basin, named for these mountains, is surrounded by several
mountain ranges.
We saw hundreds of these wells while we were
crossing Wyoming.  We counted six that were
actually pumping. Oil shortage?
Going through Ten Sleep on our way to cross over the
pass.  Note the elevation.
Sometimes, when it snows, you just can't
get out of town, no matter how hard you try.
Sometimes it REALLY snows up here.
Yep, sometimes it really snows up here.
And sometimes, in the upper elevations,
the snow never goes away.
Still chuggin'...must be about halfway to the top.
Going down can be more exciting than going up.
It wasn't easy, but we finally found something
older than Jay and the Bloomer Mafia, combined.
Finally...the top of the pass.
Check the elevation here.
Look what else we found at the top of Powder River Pass.
We stopped off at the Loaf Mountain at the Loaf share this
panorama with panorama with you.  Makes you.  Makes you just
want to say "Amen."
As we passed
over into South
Dakota, we went
by this National
Cemetery, where
we were reminded
once again  of the
precious price so
many have paid
for our freedoms.
All that we enjoy in
our lives, we enjoy
 because of them.
May God Bless
America.
