OK, so the big day's here at last...the actual return to the "Scene of the Crime", Maggie
Valley, NC, where we were married two years ago. As we leave Sevierville, TN, we gas
up again. A little confusion when Sherry thought we'd made a wrong turn and were back
in Wisconsin, near Clayton, but finally we were heading out toward Maggie Valley.
Plenty of Labor Day weekend traffic, but we got through the
pass and there's the sign...Carolina (and Caroline), here we are.
That's the place where our married life began. Inside the main
building, there's a large chapel, with a smaller, more intimate
chapel outside, with the gazebo and waterfall between the two.
As you may have heard us say, we chose to be married by this lovely waterfall, then
had some pictures taken in and around the gazebo, where Mr. Hase has chosen to
make himself comfortable.
We visited for a while with Miss
Caroline, her daughter Kylie and her
new grandbaby, Stevie. Mr. Hase
wanted to stay and play with the baby.
Then we went to one of our favorite Maggie
Valley restaurants...Judy Miller's "Country Vittles"
to have lunch with our dear friend, Cliff Hannah,
who married us.
When we tell people we were married by a disc
jockey, we're not kidding. Cliff Hannah is an
ordained minister, an internationally-renowned
award-winning master woodcarver (look for photos of
some of his work on our links page soon), a singer,
guitarist, a legend in North Carolina radio, and a
bunch of other stuff, as well as being a great friend.
We're going to spend a good part of Labor Day with
Cliff and his bride, Donna, at a big celebration in
Canton, NC, for part of which Cliff is the Master of
Ceremonies.
After lunch, we stopped by one of
our favorite shops in Maggie
Valley, The Tarnished Swan.
Jay calls the owner "The Jersey
Guy". He came for a visit and
stayed here. Always great to see
him and visit his shop.
Then, before we hit the
road, a light dessert of
Mayfield ice cream.
So we hit the road, on the way
back to Tennessee again.
Hmmm. Looks as though it
just maybe could...
...rain.
And rain it did. We got our gullies washed and our frogs strangled, but it
cooled down nicely, and we were left with more reasons why they call them
The Smoky Mountains. Where's Ronnie Milsap when you really need him?
Remember last year, when we told you about that terrible
landslide that blocked I-40 for months? Here's where it took
place. One lane of traffic is open, the other's almost complete.
As we near the end of a wonderful day, after the rain, after the
friendship, the great promise of the rainbow to top it all off. Wow!
Another interesting cloud
formation after the rain.
What's up with these two trucks? Are
they trying to make baby trucks?
Should they be allowed to do this in
public. Don't, look, Ethel...you'll get
incensed!
