Less than a half hour from Sevierville is Forbidden Caverns, full of history of
Indians, moonshiners and tourists, 650 feet below ground.  Mr. Hase cozied
up to our excellent guide, Melinda.  Said he was "scared of the dark."
Lots of strange shapes, underground pools, a couple of bats,
and a nice group with whom we made the tour. A pleasant
walk in the dark.
The caverns are lighted, after a fashion, but, if you were afraid of the dark when you
were a kid, you remembered it right away when Melinda turned off the lights...darker
than the inside of that whale that lunched Jonah.  It was a wonderful, fun time,
though.  On the way back to Hidden Mountain, where we're staying, we saw this old
mill and this new police car.  Nope, he wasn't after us.  Just on the way to lunch.
Not kidding about the
moonshiners.
