On Saturday, February 4th we hopped in Dixie and headed for the Nan
Hetchler Family Benefit at the Chetek Lanes. We walked in the door shortly
after Noon and were greeted by a contingency of elves, representatives of
Nan's favorite holiday, Christmas. There were items everywhere you looked
that were to be raffled or auctioned. A lot of generosity in the room. We met
up with Sue Hakes who had alerted us to the benefit in the beginning. Good
Food, Bake Sale, and chances at great prizes, you can't beat that!
We were not lucky enough to have met Nan before she lost her battle with cancer, so we asked some of the
elves about her...this is what she had to say: First of all, everyone said she was a good friend to everyone. If you
weren't a friend when she walked in the room, you were by the time she left. Where ever she was, there was a
party atmosphere. She loved to get together at the local watering hole, hoist a few Miller Lites, and visit with
friends. She especially loved watching her nieces and nephews play in Little League sports. Word has it that
there are plans brewing for a May 26th First Annual Celebration of Nan's Life Fest to raise funds for community
functions. Nan was definitely One Of Us!
