SHAKE, RATTLE, & ROLL RUN
Chapter 9 - Fleas, Crafty People, and
Churches, Churches, Churches...
Let's go into town and
visit the flea market.
On the way, we
dropped off our
garbage... no rural
pickup out
here...probably
couldn't get one of
those trucks around
some of the corners
or up the gravel
roads.  Beautiful
morning in the Smoky
Mountains.
Thought we might have a bit of
breakfast at the flea market.
What a menu!
And what a flea market...all indoors.  We bought some books,
a couple of audio books, and a few other little treasures.  Met
some very friendly folks and had a great time.
Sunday seemed like a
good time to go over to
Maggie Valley for a
huge arts and crafts
show.  Lots of fine stuff.
One of the places we visit every
year, when we go to Maggie Valley,
is The Tarnished Swan gift shop.
The "Jersey Guy" who owns the
place makes us welcome, and we
always find something to bring
home.  This year, there was a
Moose saw and some wonderful
no-sugar preserves and apple
butter.  Then we wandered down to
the ice cream shop.
Told you about those
narrow, curvy roads.
No kidding.
There must have been
thirty or more beautiful
country churches
between the cabin on
Fine's Creek and Lake
Junaluska.  Here are just
a few of them.
The Belmont Road Baptist church is just down the road
from the cabin, and, on Sunday morning, they made a
joyful noise unto The Lord.
So you go just past the Belmont Road Baptist
church, swing up the rock road to the right, up the hill
a bit and look for #176.  That's us.
One of our little neighbors on
the right, storing up goodies
for Winter.
Jay: "When I was growing up at Lake Waccamaw, I always loved the rainy days,
too. Rarely a thunderstorm.  You could swim in the cool rain, if you wanted to, and
the lake was warm.  But, I always loved to sit on the porch, under a beach towel,
and read.  We had a couple of cool days of gentle, soft rain at the cabin.  I still
love to sit on the porch and read.  It was even sweeter with Sherry there."
Jay: "I know folks do it, but I'll never be able
to understand why anyone who was born and
raised here would ever move away.  I feel that
same way about back home in Wisconsin."
