September 2, 2011 SHAKE, RATTLE, & ROLL RUN Chapter 8-B - Inside the cabin at the top of the Mountain and Cloggers!
|
The view beyond the front door of the cabin on Fine's Creek
was beautiful. There's a certain majesty in that old barn
that seems to remain standing just out of pure determination.
And just look at those flowers in the "front yard."
Moose on the pillows
and quilt? Go figure.
The view out the back
bedroom door leads to
Fine's Creek, just
beyond those trees.
Yup, we had a wood
stove, just in case it got
too cold. It didn't. Kitchen
worked fine. (Sherry's a
GREAT cook!) They told
us there was a washer
and dryer. We looked all
over the place. Then
Sherry went out back,
thought she'd found an old
outhouse, but
...SURPRISE!
Who drives over a
thousand miles from
Wisconsin to take photos
of cows? We do.
Friday night, we went to Lake Junaluska, about a half
hour away, for the first night of a two-night music
festival, with mountain music and dancing. We saw
some of the entertainers we'd seen last year at the
Canton Labor Day celebrations.
We saw a fretless
banjo with a goat skin
head (left), heard
some outstanding
picking and singing,
including shape note
songs, and some of
the best cloggers in
the South.
Clogging seems to
appeal to all ages
down here, from
just out of diapers
to almost back into
them again, and all
ages in between
One of several musical
families who entertained
us. That little girl, 11
years old, plays fiddle
as well as just about
anyone we have heard.
On the left is a
hammer dulcimer.
To the right, there's
a retired dentist and
friends.
The music and dancing went on for hours.
