2009 IRA Champion, Bill Balog closed out the 2009 IRA season this past Saturday at the
Sheboygan County Fair Park in Plymouth, WI. The night started off with Bill turning a lap time of
12.010 seconds in qualifying which was good for 14th quick out of the 36 cars present.
Bill started 3rd in heat race #3 and before one lap was complete, he was in the lead & would go
on to pick up his 5th heat win of the 2009 season. The B Squared Motorsports 17B lined up 8th for
the 27 lap “Frank Filskov Memorial”. At the start of the race, Bill fell back a few positions before
beginning to make his moves towards the front. A red flag midway through the race, gave Bill the
break he was looking for. On the ensuing restart, he quickly moved into the top 5. He wasn’t finished
there as he continued to make forward progression until disaster struck on lap 22 just as he was
passing for 2nd. Two lapped cars came together entering turn 1 right in front of Bill, he had no where
to go & spun to avoid making contact, relegating the 17B to the tail of the field. With 5 laps to go, Bill
was able to gain a few spots and brought home a 16th place finish.
Once the final points were tallied, Bill ended up winning the Championship by 267 points. This
week the team is heading to the Morgan County Speedway in Jacksonville, IL on Friday & St.
Francois County Speedway in Farmington, MO on Saturday.

Jay with Loren of Trackside Collectibles. How
about bringing in a few more "Jay Moore"
bobblehead dolls...this one is taken.
All smiles in the sunshine. This is our racin'
buddy, John. We have sat through many a
raindrop with this guy. He's always the
optimist that the shower will pass and we'll get
to see some racing.
First of all, the most important vehicle on the track.
As "Ol' Glory" waved in the soft breeze, the strains of the
National Anthem filled the air, and puffy white clouds floated
by in the blue sky, we knew it was time to...
GO RACING!
The Keyes Chevytown pace car brought the
racers around to the drop of the green flag,
and we were off to a great day of fast track
racing.
Above we see Grant
Southworth holding off
his competitors to take a
1st place finish in his
heat. To the left is the
guy that won the "Big
One," the Late Model
feature at the Punky
Manor Challenge of
Champions, #58 A.J.
Diemel.
So ends the local dirt track racing season, at least for the
Moores. We will be looking forward to next season.

In the meantime, is anyone interested in keeping a bit of an
area racing discussion going?
I've been an area racing fan for over 50 years and know there
are others who still remember some of the old drivers and
tracks. I remember tracks in Amery, Boyceville, and especially
Eau Claire. And drivers like Phil Prusak, Harry Mueller, and
Scratch Daniels.

If you'd like to get all nostalgic about this stuff with me, send
me an email and I'll see what I can do about bringing it
together as a feature on the
JAY MOORE IN THE MORNING WEBSITE.
RACING MEMORIES
Opening night at Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie.  A good
omen for a clear but chilly night at the track.  Who's the dork with
the Mickey Mouse ears?
"We ARE having a good
time.  No, really we are.
That number 27 car was voted by fans as one of the best looking cars.  That old familiar Keyes Chevytown
pace car did its thing. It was great to see our buddy Jeremy Dahl saddled up in the 85 car, where he belongs.
And it was a very exciting night of dirt track racing at Red Cedar.  It was fun to see our friends and whip up
on a Sailer's cheeseburger.  The new season got off to an incredible start.
Saturday evening, on the way to Rice Lake Speedway.  Will
it rain or won't it?  Forecast said "no", but they still had an
afternoon shower.  Jay whiled away the trip, singing "The
Flower Song" from "Carmen." (Buy those poppies to support
our veterans, PLEASE!)
It turned out to be a fun evening of racing, beginning with the Pure Stocks.  That number 85 car
is our pal, Jeremy Dahl, who was doing very well, until he got the "you're not from around here"
sandwich.  Was "Shrub" in this race?
There's another friend of ours, Grant Southworth in the #35 modified, having a good
night of it.  It was a generally well-organized, fast-moving evening of dirt track racing,
with some close, exciting races throughout the card.  The new owners are obviously
committed to giving us fans what we want.  Congratulations and best of luck to them!
